It’s innate.

Yes, this is a short post simply to acknowledge and celebrate International Women’s Day. It is March 8th and if you don’t know it, you’ve been living under a rock.

Female; Woman; Lady; Girl; Womxn; Transwoman; etc…

(For the purposes of this article, I will use ‘woman’ or ‘women’ as the umbrella term.)

These are the female superpowers:

Vulnerable… no, not weak. Women have a natural ability to show vulnerability. Vulnerable because they are authentic and true. Vulnerable because they know how to reach deep down into the hardest shells of the human body to draw out what’s inside. Vulnerable because in vulnerability, there is strength.

Strong… To be strong, strong-willed, to have the mental strength… girls were born into a male-dominant world. Boys were afforded so much more privilege than girls have. In some countries, girls were mistreated and boys were given all the slack. In more ‘progressive’ countries, the expectations of women to carry a household is undermined by the male’s success in business. And almost across the board, women are still paid less and expected to do more. Yet women have always shown strength… both mentally and physically.

But it is also through these challenges and the cards that were dealt to them, that women have the strength to overcome adversities and challenges… and they come out stronger and more powerful.

Emotional… don’t misunderstand this for weakness either. Being emotional just means they are can be fueled by the strength of being in-tuned to their feelings. A woman who allows herself to feel also allows herself to express. And the expression of emotion can be really effective — in building mental, identity, emotional, and relational strengths so that she has the power to exercise her talents, pursue her interests, and express and influence her opinions, at home, in her community, and in her workplace.

Empathetic… their high emotional quotient (EQ) also makes them more empathetic. If you’ve come across a woman who you felt isn’t empathetic, it’s probably because they don’t want to be… (or they’re a sociopath but that’s another story)…

Nurturing… Not just because many are mothers or having maternal instincts. But the nurturing instinct within woman is so powerful and natural to their species.

Intellectual… Clever, smart, inquisitive, instinctual… I don’t feel like I need to go into how many women were great inventors and scientists but their work have only been recognized when stolen by or had to be represented by men… Rosalind Franklin, Lisa Meitner, Elizabeth Magie, Ada Lovelace, Candace Pert, and so many more… (google them if you don’t know them!)

Leaders… every single one of the characteristics/qualities above make women well-rounded leaders. To lead with strength, empathy and with the willingness to be vulnerable… makes them powerful leaders to nurture, impact knowledge and build up future generations to lead effectively.

“You know her name, you don’t know her story. You’ve heard what she’s done, not what she’s been through. If you were in her shoes, you’d fall the first step.”

I found this quote and I changed it a little but I felt this really shows the gravity of a woman’s journey.
